Noite Carioca: Fragil
Brasil is worth a journey! Particularly for a musician. This is an experience shared by the two instrumentalists Matthias Stich (also see SDP 1007, 1018, 1038, 1048, 1051) from Freiburg (alto and soprano saxophones, bass clarinet) and Armin KrÜger from Offenburg (classical guitar) who digest the musical impressions from their journeys to Brasil in their programme „Noite Carioca”. As the first CD (SDP 1048-1), the even more mature successor production „Fragil“ under the motto „Music from Brasil“ presents rarely played sambas, bossa novas and choros by brasilian composers – among them names as famous as Gilberto Gil, Milton Nascimento, Djavan or Chico Cesar. In addition to these pieces, several of the musicians’ own compositions also appear on „Fragil“. Once more, a masterpiece of chamber music with marvellous interpretations of South American music has been created. One-third is instrumental, two-thirds are vocal, again with the Brasilian singer Viviane de Farias, who lives in Karlsruhe and also contributed to the first production. This time, the percussionist Jochen Hank appears as a singer, too. Viviane de Farias studied classical singing in Rio where she appeared on the opera stage together with world-wide celebrities such as Placido Domingo and Edda Moser as well as conductors like Zubin Mehta and Kurt Masur. On the other hand, her jazz phrasing is perfect and her voice possesses great expressiveness. The press declares: „A supernova of Brasilian singing“. | |
